Live Composting Worms

Each parcel of Composting Worms contain a mixture of Red, Blue and Tiger composting worms as well as juvenile worms and capsules(eggs).

Composting worms can break down anything organic, from kitchen scraps to animal manures reducing the amount you throw away and helping your garden process fantastic flowers or abundant fruit and vegetables.

Composting worms are easy to care for.  They need a home or farm, food, air and moisture.  Worms can be housed in products such as the Can O Woms or Pet Poo Converter, in a composting bed or in your own home made worm bed.  One other thing that worms like is a pH neutral environment,  This means that you should have someway to measure the acidity of your worm farm, and some gardening lime to reduce the composts acidity.  The simplest way to test the composts pH is with the inexpensive probe meter that we stock.

Providing your worms have sufficient food and moisture they will happily live in your worm farm, without any further care whilst you go on leave.

Composting worms will break down organic matter and create a fantastic soil conditioner in the process! The application of worm casting introduces beneficial fungi to the soil and encourages the growth of the microbiological eco-system.  This in turn encourages  larger soil organisms such and Earth Work Worms to colonise the soil creating fantastic and natural soil aeration, as well as encouraging healthy and pest resistance plant growth.

Worms can also create leachate, also called worm wee or worm juice.  This rich source of nutrients and beneficial soil bacteria can be created by draining the liquid from your worm bed.

For maximum beneficial effect use the casting and the leachate together

We Recommend 1000 worms per person in the household, but don't worry if you feed them they will breed rapidly

NOTE: If you are processing animal manures through your Worm Composting system, ensure that they have not consumed any vermicide (wormer) for three days. Prior to adding animal manure after the animal has had a worming treatment take some manure and put into a small container with a few worms over night. In the morning if the worms are alive, the manure is safe to add to the system.
