The Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter is a worm farm, that is fed on animal droppings.
Description
The Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter is a worm farm. Instead of feeding the worms vegetable scraps, the worms are fed dog and other animal droppings. The worms convert the animal droppings into worm castings (worm poo) and a liquid fertilizer, both of which can safely be used on the garden. The Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter is:
No maintenance costs
No harsh chemicals
Safe to operate
Produces valuable by-products
How does it work?
The Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter consists of a sturdy breeding box with a lid which nests on top of a catcher tray on legs forming a neat and portable compact unit. The worms eat and grow in the breeding box. This has a perforated base to allow any liquid waste to drain through to the catcher tray and allow air to acces the box ensuring the aerobic bacteria remain healthy. The "worm poo" or worm castings remain in the breeding box and can be harvested as desired. Worm Csting makes a great soil conditioner and helps soil retail moisture.
Any liquid waste that is produced drains through the perforated base of the breeding box and is funnelled to the central hole of the catcher tray. Place a container under this hole to collect the valuable liquid waste which can be diluted with equal parts of water and used to fertilize your garden or pot plants. As the diet of worms in a pet poo converter has already passed throught the body of the dog it contains much less water than vegetable scraps. As a result less liquid waste will be produced than from a worm farm where the diet of the worms is vegetable scraps. There is no difficulty in getting the worms to eat dog droppings. Commercial worm farmers rear their worms on manure.
Operating a Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter
What you need to set up your Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter:
1000 worms per animal
10 litres of bedding mix
3.5kg Garden Lime
Geofelt Cover
How to set up your Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter.
Test your animal manure with a couple of worms by placing them in a container overnight with a sample of your animal manure. Keep the container under light over night. If your worms are alive the next day the manure is safe to feed to the remainder of the worms.
Soak your Coir Peat block in water and spread the bedding out evenly over the bottom of the breading box.
Place worms on top of the bedding.
Leave the worms under a light for the first night so that they bed in.
Site the Pet Poo Converter in a shady part of the garden near where the dog does his business.
Place a container under the catcher to collect the leachate.
Using a "pooper scooper" pop the dog droppings into the top of the Pet Poo Converter sprinkle with garden lime, wet down with water and cover with the Geofelt cover or damp newspaper and close the lid. The worms and nature will do the rest!
The Pet Poo Converter will handle, on average, the droppings of two medium size dogs.
